I’ve been looking for my perfect “M” for over a year, and I finally found it at Michael’s! I did a DIY dried flower picture with my bouquet from my wedding. It found it’s home next to one of our wedding pictures above our mid-century modern inspired headboard*. I knew I wanted to add an “M” sign to the wall as well to celebrate my new last name! I’m picky when it comes to font, everything was either too cutesy or too rigid.
I love the mid-century modern feel of this “M”. I chose a simple circular wooden background for my “M”. I contemplated leaving the natural wood finish for the background, however, I decided on a beautiful dark green paint.
I started by wiping off the wood with a microfiber cloth* to remove any dust. Also, to ensure that the paint adheres nicely to the wood.
Next, I used a sponge brush to apply an even coat of the paint to the wooden circle. I worked quickly and followed the grain of the wood. I contemplated adding a second coat, but I loved the natural texture of the wood peaking through the paint. I love ordering these sponge brushes* in bulk on Amazon. I always have them on hand for any DIY’s or activities for the kids.
I applied an even coat of Clear Gorilla wood glue * to the back of the “M”. Then placed it in the center of the circle (you can use a ruler to make sure it’s perfectly centered, I just eyeballed it).
Once the “M” was exactly where I wanted it, I placed some books (gift idea for your LOTR lover)* on top. This will help weigh it down and ensure that the glue adhered evenly to the surface of the “M”.
If some glue starts to seep out of the sides of the letter, try to wipe it away before it dries. This will ensure that the wooden surface stays looking smooth. Since the wood glue dries clear , it is ok if not all of the glue is perfectly wiped away. Allow the sign to completely dry, about 24 hours. This sign is a great DIY for beginners! It would make a perfect gift for a newlywed couple as well! Tag me if you make your own!

The sign also fits perfectly in the middle of this beautiful real wreath from Costco! Perfect for the front door during the holidays!
